Grandpa McCormick
My Grandfather died when I was pregnant with my third child. It was very traumatic for the whole family and for years I had a hard time even dialing my grandmothers telephone number expecting my grandpa to pick up the phone like he had for years. I created a mini quilt in his honor. It was my therapy where I could think about him and not cry! (I found out really quick if I cried while sewing my fingers did I prick!) The entire piece was hand sewn. If you look closely you will see saying all around my grandpa. The sayings were things he used to tell my sister and my bother and I when we were children.
I'm full of Spunk and Spizarinktum, That was a Gastronomical Appetizer! I'm fair to middlin', Good morning merry sunshine how did you wake to soon do scared away the little stars and drove away the moon. (this was sung off tune as my grandpa couldn't carry a tune in a bucket!!) When Grandpa was a little girl.... (This was only said until my little brother was born, it then went to When Grandpa was a little boy!) Like a bugs Ear, It's dark under the table and When my ship comes in!
This is the sweetest thing I have read in a LONG time... Thank you for sharing this. I am going to start writing down things my grandma has said over the years. Thank you. I love your new blog!
